Aaron Smith, Senior Associate
Founder and leader of GoVoluntouring and Holidays for Humanity as well as former VP of Marketing for Flight Centre, Aaron is a systems guy. When systems are in place, he follows them. When they’re not, he creates them. Aaron has launched two web start-ups and created success by activating online communities that are engaged, informed, and motivated.
A believer in building things as we fly them, Aaron is constantly improving, taking calculated risks, managing expectations, and spending time listening to end-users. He’s never without a notepad, coffee, or his passport. He’s also a big believer in preserving wild places, and protecting the living creatures that call them home.
In 2012, Aaron was awarded Business in Vancouver ‘Top 40 under 40’, and in 2013 as one of BC Business ‘Top 20 Innovators of the Year’. In addition, Aaron is a contributor to the Vancouver Sun and the Huffington Post.
Aaron has traveled to 70+ countries, built a school in Costa Rica, an orphanage in Guatemala, and worked with micro-loan candidates in East Africa. He’s had sea turtle poachers hold guns on him in El Salvador, and been blackmailed by police in Nicaragua. He’s drank a lifetime’s worth of viper-rum in Belize, entered a hot-sauce sampling contest in Zanzibar, and choked back boa constrictor, termites, warthog, and hercules beetles.
Today, he sits as Chairman for the Eric C. Douglass Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies at Royal Roads University, is a board member for the Sandals Foundation (Sandals Resorts) in Canada, and a past board member for Tourism BC’s Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association.
